I was so sorry to hear about Jim's passing. I have very fond memories of running with Jim the summer of 1980. He taught me all of the cross country training routes up in the hills north of Claremont. We would run in the evenings when the smog and heat were not so bad. One time on the way down from a long run up in the hills, it was getting dark and we both just missed stepping on a rattle snake that was crossing the road. We both just about pissed our pants!!!

Jim was always a kind and encouraging mentor in regards to my running. He was so unselfish. He is the major reason I developed a life long love of running. He had already been running seriously for several years at that time. I am pretty sure he ran a 2:26 marathon in his sophomore or junior year which is blazing fast for someone that age. Unfortunately, he started having some health problems after that, which slowed him down a bit.

If anyone has contact information for his family, please send it to me.
